New York, New York

We want to be a part of it!

Ah, New York. We love this city. There's such a constant buzz of energy here. Since we have both been here many times, we didn't cram too many activities in to our days, mostly choosing to amble about the city and take in the views. We are staying at our good friend Danielle's house in the West Village; the absolute perfect location. We've been talking about moving to New York for several years...we are still undecided about whether we will do that. There are just so many people here, it can be overwhelming! But, this city has so much of EVERYTHING to offer. Major pros of the city: FOOD, drink, everything at your fingertips. Cons: not a fan of the heat and humidity, the density of the people everywhere you go, and getting things done, such as a run to Whole Foods, just feels slightly more difficult.

We had a few days in the city hanging out with Danielle, getting some delicious meals and checking out the Biergarten at the Standard. We had a few days on our own, that we filled with relaxation and walking, then our mothers joined us a few days ago. Since our mothers arrived, so far we have spent our evenings relaxing on the roof deck and watching movies, and the days exploring.

Highlights of what we have seen: Chelsea Market, walked the High Line, went running with Claire Danes (well she was running the other direction but it counts), went and saw Motown on Broadway (which was fantastic), took our mothers to Corner Bistro and many other delicious eateries, and walked all the way from the West Village up to the Whitney for the Jeff Koons exhibit (fascinating).

Below are some pictures of the sights we have taken in. New York, we love you, but can't decide if we should keep our casual yearly fling, or if we should make an honest city out of you and move here.

All our bags are packed, we're ready to go!

We have two days to go until we depart on our great adventure! After lots of cleaning, storing, and donating, all of our bags are packed, and our apartment is ready for new tenants. Our good friends Jaime and Matt will be babysitting our place in San Francisco while we're out and about; such an ideal situation for all of us for which we are very grateful.

We are so excited but also a bit nervous! Packing was more challenging than we expected, since we're visiting such a wide array of destinations. We had to look through each other's bags and challenge each other to remove a lot of unnecessary items. We are trying our best to travel as light as possible, but that is quite a challenge! As you can see, our bags are still rather large and weigh about 30 lbs each. We are going to comb through them once more - we'd much rather be in the 20 lb zone, and buy items as we go along if necessary

We will miss all of our friends and family, and will be away during the holidays this year. Please be sure to stay in touch. We will have access to Wifi on most days, so please keep in touch via email, and be sure to download "Whatsapp" so we can stay in touch via text and phone calls. And or course, visit this blog to see our status!

Our stops include: NYC, Paris, Lauterbrunnen Valley Switzerland, Munich (Octoberfest!), Madrid, Barcelona, Istanbul, Cappadocia, Windhoek and a safari through Namibia, Capetown and the Garden Route, Johannesburg, Botswana, Zimbabwe, The Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, all in 4 months.

We do not have a return ticket home yet, so stay tuned! We expect to be back in the Bay area in mid-January.

Here's to our great adventure! We feel so incredibly fortunate to have each other, and to have the ability to take this time off and see the world.
